Seniors Golf Association
“Seniors of the Month” for May in the Lake Spivey Senior Men’s Golf Association were Guy Birchfield and Martin Knotts. Birchfield won low net honors with a 65.25 average and Knotts remained the low gross winner with a one-under-par 71.0 average. Second to Birchfield in low net were Gene Barnette and Frank Foster, each with 66.0 averages, while David Burnside, Marvin Shannon and Pete Tanaka shared third with 66.25 averages. Bob Greene followed Knotts for low gross honors with a 73.25 average, followed by Birchfield and Bob White at 74.25.
Don Gibbs recorded the year’s second hole-in-one when he aced the 15th hole, using a trusty nine iron on Thursday, May 22. A $100 ”Seniors reward” went along with congratulations for his second lifetime hole-in-one. The next day, Senior member Jack Welch also scored a hole-in-one, but since it wasn’t on a regular playday, no monetary reward followed. Congratulations to both.
The Seniors owe a special thank you to the Ladies Association for another great play day during our annual Spring Guys & Dolls hosted by the Ladies on May 11. The breakfast provided by the Ladies was, as usual, very good with so much food and different dishes. The Senior Men will host the September 2 Guys & Dolls.
July events for the Seniors include a tournament and cookout on July 3 followed by the beginning of Summer Match Play on July 15.
